UNICEF Luxembourg is seeking an experienced Major Gifts & Philanthropy Officer to build and manage meaningful relationships with major donors, family offices, foundations and other philanthropic partners committed to creating lasting change for children worldwide.

Your role 

As Major Gifts & Philanthropy Officer, you will lead the development of UNICEF Luxembourg’s major donor fundraising programme, creating the strategies, relationships and opportunities needed to engage high-value supporters in a meaningful and sustainable way.

You will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and other philanthropic partners, building meaningful long term relationships that support UNICEF’s work for children.

As a member of the Fundraising Team, you will work in close collaboration with colleagues across the different fundraising channels as well as from the  communications team to create integrated supporter journeys and maximize fundraising opportunities across our donor base.

You will play a key role in building a strong pipeline of future supporters and positioning UNICEF Luxembourg as a trusted partner for philanthropy and social impact.

Key responsibilities 

Major donor fundraising, philanthropy and relationship management

• Develop and implement UNICEF Luxembourg’s major donor fundraising approach and growth strategy.
• Build, manage and grow a portfolio of major donor prospects, family offices, foundations and other strategic philanthropic partners.
• Conduct face-to-face meetings and create meaningful opportunities for donors to connect with UNICEF’s work and impact.
• Develop compelling funding opportunities aligned with donor interests and UNICEF priorities.
• Ensure excellent stewardship and long-term engagement of donors through tailored communications, reporting and recognition.
• Monitor trends and opportunities within the philanthropy and wealth management sectors.

Collaboration, planning and reporting

• Work closely with colleagues across fundraising programmes to identify opportunities for donor migration and integrated engagement.
• Contribute to fundraising planning, forecasting and performance monitoring.
• Track portfolio performance and report on fundraising progress against agreed objectives.
• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of UNICEF programmes, priorities and impact.
• Represent UNICEF Luxembourg at networking events, donor meetings and fundraising activities, including occasional evening or weekend engagements. 

What we’re looking for 

• University degree or equivalent higher education qualification in a relevant field, such as fundraising, business administration, marketing, communications, economics, international relations or related disciplines.
• Experience in major gifts fundraising or in managing relationships with high net worth individuals, family offices, foundations or philanthropic intermediaries. Experience in fundraising, private banking, wealth management, philanthropy advisory services or other strategic relationship management roles is highly valued.
• Experience developing donor/client pipelines and managing complex cultivation and solicitation processes.
• Strong networking, negotiation and relationship building skills, combined with a thoughtful and donor centred approach to cultivating long term relationships.
• Flexibility to adapt working hours when needed to attend donor meetings, networking events and other relationship building opportunities, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
• A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high quality donor stewardship, helping ensure that every interaction, communication and reporting opportunity reflects UNICEF’s standards of excellence.
• Experience working with CRM systems and donor databases.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Fluency in English and French is required. Luxembourgish is a strong asset. German is an advantage.
• A strong interest in philanthropy and a commitment to UNICEF’s mission and values.
