22.100 children need urgent humanitarian assistance
On 26 August, severe flash floods devastated the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading in Nepal. Entire communities were destroyed. At least 1.000 people have lost their lives, and thousands of people are still missing. The death toll could rise further. (Situation as of 3 September 2026)
An estimated 65.000 people, including 22.100 children, have been affected. Many families have been forced to leave their homes, and some areas remain difficult to reach due to damage to roads, bridges, water networks and telecommunications infrastructure.
The children who survived need help now.
A disaster that is changing children’s lives
Children face increased risks of disease, malnutrition, psychological distress, violence and exploitation. Some children have also been separated from their families.
The floods swept away homes and severely damaged essential infrastructure. Health facilities were also affected, limiting access to healthcare at a time when needs are increasing. At least 38 schools have been completely destroyed or severely damaged. Around 10.000 school-aged children need immediate assistance to continue their education.

UNICEF is on the ground
At the request of the Government of Nepal, UNICEF is working with authorities and partners to support children and families affected by the disaster.
Thanks to emergency supplies pre-positioned before the floods, UNICEF was able to respond quickly. Our teams are working to:
✅ provide safe drinking water and hygiene supplies
✅ ensure healthcare and emergency nutrition support
✅ protect children separated from their families and support family reunification
✅ provide psychosocial support to affected children
✅ enable children to resume learning in safe spaces
✅ support the most vulnerable families so they can meet their essential needs
